Who is Cassandra Jefferson?
Cassandra Jefferson is a portrait artist who endeavors to make emotions of her subjects come alive on the canvas. Born in West Philadelphia and raised in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Cassandra became inspired to pursue art when she was only 8-years old. After seeing the ground-breaking photography of Gordon Parks in Life Magazine, the first-ever black photographer for that publication, she was mesmerized. She found his pictures of a family in Rio de Janeiro as moving and descriptive as the words in her favorite Alice Walker novels, something she never knew images could be capable of. She became an avid self-taught photographer for many years before eventually developing a desire to be more hands-on in her creative process. Deciding to return to school to pursue her dreams of being a multi-media visual artist has opened up a new world for Cassandra. After graduating from Moore College of Art & Design with a Bachelorette degree in Illustration, her art has been featured in numerous exhibits and events throughout the region.
